My Journey as a New Email Marketing Specialist: Growth, Challenges & Success

Hi there, my name is sahra warsame and I'm the founder of Clearsend marketing. I'm a passionate email marketing specialist, who's ready to give you some insight into my journey as a self taught digital marketer.


My journey into email marketing didn’t start with years of formal education, such as obtaining a university degree or a corporate job. Like many other's before me, I began as someone who was looking to work in an environment that wasn't anything like your typical 9 to 5. Doing my own research, including with the help of ai such as Chat GPT. I was looking for a rewarding but fascinating career, that would push me to invest in an industry of my own choice.

As a result, I stumbled across email marketing, which to my surprise was actually really fascinating as it was a sub category of digital marketing and to me I didn't view myself as a tech savvy person, yet I felt more immersed learning about how email marketing was a powerful tool in helping businesses grow. Better yet, I can do this from my own home, providing my client's with everything they need remotely.


For the first time, I was motivated enough to pursue email marketing on my own accord starting off using ESP's (Email Service Provider) such mail chimp. To practise using tools such as automation, learnt how to copyright and to segment audiences with the help of in depth Youtube tutorials and AI. The road has not always been smooth. In fact, when I first started, I had little more than a laptop, a dream, and a lot of curiosity. But with dedication and hours of research, online courses, and a healthy dose of trial and error, I began to understand the complexities of email marketing—how personalised email campaigns could drive real results for businesses.


I quickly realised that email marketing was one of the best ways to make connections happen between businesses and customers. For example, by tailoring campaigns to your audience's preferences—like age, gender, and interests—you can engage them more effectively.

With the help of A/B testing this would help determine, which emails would help businesses resonate with their audience. Therefore, leading to a better return on investment (ROI) and happier, more engaged customers. Which prevents a damaged sender reputation, caused by high bounce rates, high unsubscribe rates, low click through rates or being flagged as spam instead.




Although I’m still learning and growing in the email marketing space, what sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to constant improvement and adaptation. I understand that every brand is unique, and that’s why I focus on creating email strategies that are tailored specifically to your audience. Every email campaign I design is more than just sending out messages—it’s about telling your brand’s story, building trust, and ultimately driving conversions.
